Break a needle, Take a break

Must have been something in the air. Mom was having a lot of problems breaking needles on her Juki and big frame. Did all the normal stuff. Futzed around. Changed needle, rethreaded, cleaned etc. Walked away. Came back. Loosened the quilt in the frame and voila. Too tight.

I admit to being distracted tonight. Yet another weird day. Wanted to watch the special Gray’s Anatomy and thought it was really stinko. It managed to crank up my weird mishmosh of stuff. Which is really too bad since I felt pretty good when I walked in the door – I came in, made a nice little plate of dinner noshies and was doing a little this and that and then… Chatted with mom a bit about an even weirder show that they watched. Moral of that story: people will do just about anything you suggest if you let them do it on TV.

Finally say – ok I’m ready to quilt. I start. I realize I’m sort of going in the wrong direction which is away from me. And yes BLAM! I hit a pin and break the needle. No damage to anything other than the needle but BLAM nontheless.

So here I am. Taking a break and trying to refocus.

While I’m sorting all that out, here’s a great link that came my way via one list or another today or maybe both: HOW TO STEAL LIKE AN ARTIST (AND 9 OTHER THINGS NOBODY TOLD ME). Yeah you can thank me and Gerrie Congdon.

Had a nice time chatting with this couple today which was fun. Didn’t seem like they had a website yet but this turned up on search. They live in a huge restored church which is probably good since he seems to do some big works. At the end I find out that his wife quilts!! You just never know.

OK my cup of tea is done. It’s about time for hitchcock (what a great show) and then star trek (oh jean luc) and then I guess I have to get some sleep.

First Warning – National Poetry Month alert!

Consider this your early alarm going off for, yes folks, tomorrow begins the annual “National Poetry Month” brought to you by the fine folks at http://www.poets.org/. There is also Poem in Your Pocket Day to prepare for – April 14th: “The idea is simple: select a poem you love during National Poetry Month then carry it with you to share with co-workers, family, and friends.” The Poetry Foundation may also be a good resource for you but wander where you will in preparation for the month. And yes there’s an app for that.

There are many ways to celebrate, both public and personal. Share poems, learn new ones, write a few of your own. For the past two years I have held a Haiku Slam event in the World of Warcraft, amazing and delighting the residents of Echo Isles server with haiku about mages and Chuck Norris. Last year people joined right in!

So what will you do to celebrate?

Prepare now poets
Poetry month is April.
Read and write – start now.

#10 bobbin is history so it’s time to wind ten more. Sometimes it seems like nothing’s getting done but you and I know better.

The quest

Only the curious will learn and only the resolute overcome the obstacles to learning. The quest quotient has always excited me more than the intelligence quotient. — Eugene S Wilson
