Inspiration: I don’t feel as full of inspiration as I once was. — Nora Ephron, NYTimes interview

Black Friday, and the cat story that started it out.

I actually stayed in the mall for a brief time after my stint at the fruit stand. Why? To get the first official, serious holiday present. Yes I did.

Then I stopped at my local eating place in Nassau. It’s the sort of place where once they know you, everyone knows you. The owner says “you made it through another Black Friday!” Oh dear. That’s way too many Black Fridays.

They were having the no-customer portion of Black Friday, the part where everyone goes home and pretends to like each other before deciding to go out drinking or visiting or movies etc. I got served my dinner pretty quickly, enjoyed it greatly, left a generous tip for the young guy who served me and then I toodled on home.

I cleared off my ironing board in prep for ironing all those little seams open. I am not sure I have it in me to actually start that tonight, but I am ready for it space-wise.

Oh wait, before I forget, a cat story. Last night I knew I should eat something before work because on Black Friday you never know when you’ll get a break or food etc. So I actually set up the coffee to make coffee this AM and I put some of my pumpkin mush in the microwave to heat. I sat down with fresh hot coffee and warm, tasty mush. Mmmmm.

Something flashed in front of me and BLAM! I was covered with pumpkin mush. From what I could figure out, a cat went dashing by, somehow leveraging the spoon out of the bowl of mush and flinging it at me. Honest to goodness could not tell you what cat, although I don’t think it was Molly.

Anyway, there I sat covered with mush. my glasses – covered. My shirt dripping. Blotches of lovely pumpkin mush all over my jeans. My computer glasses were hanging from the neck of my work shirt and both lenses were covered with warm mush.

I guess the good news was that I didn’t have it all in my hair. (at least no one said anything if I did LOL) and that I had new clothes to change into. And that’s what I did, all the while shaking my head about the very very helpful cats.

Happy Thanksgiving

Woke up this morning and thought… mmmmm….. warm…. just a couple more minutes….. and next thing I knew it was an hour later and the power was off. Luckily the stovetop percolator saved the coffee day and I can use the top of the stove by lighting the burners so all was well. That meant that pumpkin mush was breakfast du jour! I was super glad that I’d gone down and switched the wash and let the dryer run over night LOL. Green beans are done and carrots are up next. Squash got cooked last night so it just needs making into the finished product. So we’re in good shape.

Happy Thanksgiving!

According to Chris Kimball of America’s Test Kitchen, heard on NPR this morning, our Mashed potatoes are, wait for it, “a lost recipe” for whipped potatoes. Which, further, America’s Test Kitchen thought were impossible and to be discouraged. What????? In fact, he admitted, you can see whipped potatoes as a setting for many older stand and hand-held mixers of the era.

Well there you go Mr. Kimball. Welcome to the world of the world’s best mashed ok whipped potatoes, as made by the Frezons. Specifically by Ed Frezon (thanks dad!) No seconds for you Mr. Kimball. Pass the bowl over here please.

almost half done with piecing

just started fifth-to-last column. I should be able to get these last ones sewn on tonight. Then, as May Son-Rise goers will recall, a whole lotta ironing to do to press everything open and then sewing in the other direction. Whoa, the magical life of it all.

Meanwhile, came down here to check on iOS update for iPhone being downloaded – about 11 min to go. And for good measure, installing iLife 11 as a hoped for solution to the computer being shut down maybe once or twice too often by small ferocious kitten. NoooooO! Ran disk utility and disk permission but iphoto was still a bit wonky, so I’m crossing my fingers here.

and for good measure while I’m watching the little bars go across the wee beastie aforemention computer killer and I are discussing the benefits of less biting and more licking and purring. Just saying. I’ve given the big cats the go ahead to whap sense into whatever little empty skull they deem necessary LOL.
