Wow, there’s not much sadder than a holiday cold, eh? On the way home on Friday, I had a little shiver and then my nose just got out of control! By the time I got home I was in full-blown cold mode. Geesh. Today thanks to the power of DayQuil I feel a little better but now it’s all in my throat and upper chest. I guess the weird hours of the past couple weeks with the mall crowds finally caught up to me. Just another reason not to go to the mall. I’m sure glad I’m not there today. About an hour 20 minutes of shopping left for those crazy enough to still be out there.
Nevertheless, I have spent my time wrapping presents and instead of napping, I’m afraid I’ve been zoned out in World of Warcraft. As a diversion there I am visiting the area known to my other night elf character. Interesting fighting some of the beasts again, with different powers and a little more smarts.
Hope you and yours have all the best of the season, and may all your fruitcakes be good ones!
First off — don’t mess with women who are mailing out fruitcakes to friends and family. You will make a fool out of yourself and put yourself in line to miss out on some good fruitcake. Geesh.
Secondly — a moment of silence please to mark the passing of the “other” fruitcake lady, Marie Rudisill, author and frequent guest on the Jay Leno Show (be sure to watch the first video of Jay and Mel making fruitcake!). No speculation on the role of fruitcake in living to be 95, but why chance it. Eat more fruitcake in Marie’s honor this year. Turns out she’s the Capote connection….)
Last — hear this fruitcake lady on the CBC on Monday. I’ll be doing a short live interview on the Freestyle Show on CBC, also heard via Sirius radio. I’ll of course be representing The Society for the Protection and Preservation of Fruitcake. We’re a dedicated band that’s all about good fruitcake and the making and eating of same. Protecting its good name. Preserving it with some good brandy. Slicing it thin and passing it around the room for all to enjoy.
when I’m not purging and correcting long-standing websites of their many problems and errors — I fly around at night.
When you’re done laughing you can go visit the Society for the Protection and Preservation of Fruitcake.
Our local newspaper isn’t known for its hard-core reporting so there are the obligatory holiday pieces about parking lot space rumbles, crowds at the malls, hot gifts, etc. This piece gave me a good chuckle and some flashbacks to some of my own relationship/gift memories. Hey, we’ve all got ‘em. There was that year when the serious beau of the moment handed me that little velvet box under the tree…. ooops…. opal earrings. Beautiful opal earrings! But it was quite a few minutes before my heart supplied enough blood to the brain to get the mouth to say anything at all.
